This care home in Barcelona brings together the best of the Nordic care model and the warmth of Mediterranean culture. The project is organised as a series of different living environments within the same building, following a model that helps reduce noise, disorientation and other stress factors for older people. With 99 places and 6 household units, the project transforms a large existing structure into a warmer, more domestic and human care environment. The main challenge was to give the building a sense of home, comfort and dignity, moving away from the institutional image traditionally associated with care homes.
The main challenge was to transform a structure originally designed for a supermarket into a care home with a sense of warmth, domesticity and human scale. The project reinterprets a large, open building as a sequence of smaller living environments, reducing its institutional character and creating a more comfortable place for older people.

The interior spaces are designed with warm, domestic materials that move away from the institutional feel of traditional care homes. This more home-like atmosphere helps create calmer, more comfortable environments and supports better care for residents.
